Only The Route Changed
A plan just fell through.
The deal collapsed.
The move didn't happen.
The job went to someone else.
The thing you'd been building toward for months stopped dead.
And it feels like the goal went with it.
It didn't.
One route simply closed. The destination is still exactly where it was.
Here's why it doesn't feel that way...
You'd been living inside the plan. Rehearsing it. Picturing each step, how it would unfold, what it would feel like when you got there.
You rehearsed the route so many times it started to feel like the destination. So when it closed, it felt like losing the whole thing.
But the route was never the point. It was just the first way you could think of to get there. And it was always going to change. Something shifts, someone says no, the timing moves. It's fluid. Dynamic.
A route changing isn't the plan failing. It's the plan operating normally.
So before you do anything else, go back to the reason you started.
Not just the plan. The why underneath it.
What were you actually trying to build? What did you want your life to look like on the other side?
Has any of that changed?
Almost always, no. The why is still valid. The destination is still worth reaching.
The only thing that's gone is one way of getting there.
So grieve that route if you need to. It's disappointing, and that's fair.
Then find the next one.
Because you haven't gone backwards.
You've just found out which road doesn't lead there.
If you know someone who would benefit from reading this, please forward it to them. It may change the trajectory of their life for the better, and the catalyst could be you.
