Remember The Goals You Set In January?
We’re almost halfway through the year, which makes this a good moment to ask an honest question.
The goals you set back in January… where are they?
Not the updated version.
The original version.
Most likely, one of two things has happened.
You’ve fallen off track with the goals entirely.
Or you’ve made so many small compromises along the way that what’s left is almost unrecognisable from what you set out to achieve.
If that hits home, I want you to know something first.
That doesn’t make you lazy.
It doesn’t make you a failure.
It doesn’t mean you’re not capable.
It’s incredibly common. Almost everyone drifts by the midpoint.
But here’s where it gets dangerous.
Because there’s a very specific thought that tends to show up around this time of year... “I’ll just wait until January and start again.”
It sounds harmless.
Reasonable, even.
A clean slate.
A fresh start.
The natural time to reset.
But sit with what that decision actually means.
It means writing off the next six months of your life.
Six months where everything could change.
Six months that could look completely different by December.
Six months you’ll never get back.
Pissed away. Waiting for an arbitrary date on a calendar.
And there’s a deeper cost most people never see.
Every time you wait for the “perfect time” to start, you reinforce an identity.
The identity of someone who waits.
The identity of someone who’s reactive instead of proactive.
The identity of someone who kicks the can down the road and hopes next year will somehow be different.
That identity compounds. Every time you give in to it, it gets stronger.
So here’s the alternative.
Don’t wait.
Draw a line in the sand right here, at the halfway mark, and decide that the second half of this year is going to look nothing like the first.
Not in January. Now.
The next six months are going to pass either way.
The only question is who you’ll be when they’re done.
A note before I leave you to your day…
In July, I’m opening the next intake of my 5 Year Vision & 12 Month SMART Goal Execution Program. It’s a 5 week guided mentoring process built to do exactly what this email is about - help you draw the line, define where you’re actually heading, and build the structure to get there without relying on motivation.
It’s the same foundational framework I run with my 1:1 mentoring clients, delivered in a small group online, capped at 10 people. Here's what one of the members of the first cohort back in February had to say about it...
If you’d like the details, reply to this email with the word VISION and I’ll send them through.
No pressure. Just an option if it feels aligned.
Either way, remember this… The next six months will pass whether you decide to use them or not.
Make them count.
If you know someone who would benefit from reading this, please forward it to them. It may change the trajectory of their life for the better, and the catalyst could be you.
