Self Doubt Isn't A Weakness
Confidence and self-doubt sit on opposite sides of the same coin.
When you have real confidence, doubt tends to go quiet. You move forward. You act. You achieve things you couldn't have achieved standing still.
When self-doubt shows up, confidence usually steps back.
And because that's how it feels in the moment, you usually treat self-doubt as something shameful. A weakness. A flaw to be hidden, fixed, or avoided.
That framing is wrong.
Self-doubt isn't proof you're not capable.
It's proof you're standing on the edge of the next level.
Here's what's actually happening underneath it…
The version of you that exists right now hasn't fully caught up to the version of you required for what's next.
You're sensing the gap.
You're feeling the distance between who you are today and who you need to become to step into what's in front of you.
That sensation is the at root of self-doubt.
It only shows up when you're reaching for something bigger than your current self.
Stay inside your existing identity and you'll never feel it. Reach beyond it and it's the first thing that arrives.
That's not weakness. That's evidence.
There are three fears that keep most people exactly where they are.
The fear of failure (what if I try this and it doesn’t work?)
The fear of other people’s opinions (what are other people going to say about me?)
The fear of inadequacy (also known as self doubt)
You don't overcome any of them by going around.
You don't overcome them by waiting them out.
You don't overcome them by pretending they aren't there.
You overcome them by going through.
Self-doubt is the most interesting of the three… because it's actually a signal.
A signal that you're reaching.
That you're stretching.
That you're on the edge of the next version of yourself, and the only thing standing between you and that version is the work involved in becoming it.
So the next time self-doubt shows up, don't treat it as a stop sign.
Treat it as confirmation.
You're not failing.
You're not weak.
You're not in over your head.
You're exactly where you're supposed to be.
Right on the edge of who you're becoming.
