Successful In Spite Of, Not Because Of

Successful In Spite Of, Not Because Of

A business can absolutely be successful without doing the foundational work.

Without a real business model.
Without solid unit economics.
Without financial discipline.
Without a strong value proposition.
Without a robust culture.
Without a recognisable brand.
Without a structured retention and referral strategy.

It happens all the time. And I’ve experienced it myself.

Hard work, hustle, timing, and a good product or service can carry a business a long way without any of those things being properly in place.

But succeeding “in spite of” is not the same as succeeding “because of”.

And the gap between the two is enormous.

I've lived both sides of this.

I built MassiveJoes into a business doing over a million dollars a month in sales without most of the frameworks above. We worked harder than the competition. We innovated faster than the competition. And the results came.

But honestly? Knowing what I know now, half of those frameworks in place from day one and that business does a million dollars a week.

That's the real cost of "in spite of."

You still win. You just leave most of the upside on the table.

In the last 12 months, I've built Key from the ground up with every one of those frameworks in place from day one.

And we've already hit milestones in 12 months that took MassiveJoes 10 years to reach.

Same operator.

Same work ethic.

Completely different infrastructure underneath.

If your business is winning without the frameworks underneath it, that's not a reason to leave them out.

It's the strongest argument I can give you for putting them in.

Because the version of your business that's succeeding right now is the watered-down version.

The full-strength one is on the other side of the work most operators don’t know how to implement, or avoid altogether.

If you run a business that's currently successful “in spite of”, and you'd like to know what it could become “because of”, reply to this email and tell me a bit about it.

I'm opening my books for one-on-one business mentoring for the first time in months.

Two spots open up in June.

If you know someone who would benefit from reading this, please forward it to them. It may change the trajectory of their life for the better, and the catalyst could be you.
