Welcome To Separation Season
There’s a window that opens around this time every year.
Almost no one notices it. Even fewer use it.
I call it Separation Season.
In the Northern Hemisphere, it’s summer. The weather’s good. Everyone’s on holiday. The mindset shifts to switching off, slowing down, and coasting into the back half of the year.
In the Southern Hemisphere, it’s winter. It’s cold. It’s dark. It’s wet. Motivation drops. The couch wins. People go quiet and wait for spring.
Different hemispheres. Same result.
The entire pack slows down at the same time.
And that is precisely why this is the most valuable window of the entire year.
Because when everyone around you eases off, the gap between you and them stops being about talent, or resources, or luck.
It comes down to one thing... who keeps moving.
This is the season where you get to separate.
From your competition, who’ve quietly taken their foot off the accelerator.
From the people around you, who are coasting through the middle of the year.
And most importantly, from the previous version of you.
The version who, every other year, would have slowed down right about now too.
That’s the separation that actually matters.
Because here’s the trap waiting at this time of year.
The voice that says “everyone slows down in winter.”
Or “no one’s really working over summer anyway.”
Or the big one we talked about earlier this week… “I’ll just wait until January and start fresh.”
Every one of those is permission to blend back into the pack.
And every time you take that permission, you reinforce the same identity.
The one who slows down when it’s inconvenient.
The one who waits for ideal conditions.
The one who looks exactly like everyone else, because they do exactly what everyone else does.
But the opposite is also true.
Every time you keep moving while the pack slows, you cast a vote for a different identity entirely.
The one who separates.
The one who’s proactive when everyone else is reactive.
The one who looks back at the end of the year having pulled away while everyone else stood still.
The next few months will be wasted by most people.
Written off.
Coasted through.
Surrendered to the weather or the holidays or the calendar.
You don’t have to be one of them.
You can treat this as the season you draw the line, keep your foot down, and quietly pull away from everyone who chose to wait.
Separation Season has begun.
The only question is whether you use it.
A note before I leave you to your day…
In July, right in the heart of this window, I’m opening the next intake of my 5 Year Vision & 12 Month SMART Goal Execution Program.
It’s a 5 week guided mentoring program, delivered in a small group online and capped at 10 people. It’s built to help you do exactly what this email is about… separate from the pack by building real direction, clear goals, and an execution system while everyone else is coasting.
It’s the same foundational framework I run with my 1:1 mentoring clients. Here’s what one of the members of the first cohort back in February had to say about it…
If you’d like the details, reply to this email with the word VISION and I’ll send them through.
No pressure. Just an option if it feels aligned.
Either way, remember this… The pack slows down at this time of year.
That’s exactly why now is your chance to pull ahead
If you know someone who would benefit from reading this, please forward it to them. It may change the trajectory of their life for the better, and the catalyst could be you.
