You’re Spending Energy On Things You Can’t Move

Something is taking up space in your head right now.

A decision someone else made.
A market that turned.
A person who behaved badly.
Something you didn’t see coming.

You’ve thought about it more times over the last few days than you’d like to admit.

You’ve replayed it, argued with it, rehearsed what you’d say.

And none of it has moved the situation an inch.

Here’s the framework I always come back to: Control Your Controllables

There are exactly four things within your control. Everything else is outside it.

1. Your Actions

You cannot control what happens around you, but you can control the next decision you make and the standard you bring to it.

2. Your Responses

You rarely choose the situation, but you can choose whether you react impulsively or respond with clarity.

3. Your Effort

You don’t control the outcome of your effort. But you always control how well you prepare, how hard you work, and whether you keep going when conditions become difficult.

4. Your Attitude

You can’t choose the circumstances, or how other people behave inside them. You always choose the meaning you give the moment, the energy you bring, and whether adversity weakens you or sharpens you.

That’s the list.

Everything else - what people think of you, what the market does, what someone decides about you in a room you’re not in - sits outside it entirely.

And here’s what that costs you...

Every hour spent on the uncontrollable is an hour taken from the four things that will actually change your position.

The energy doesn’t disappear. It gets spent on something that was never going to move.

So when you notice yourself consumed by something, ask one question.

"Is this on the list?"

If it isn’t, accept it. Then anchor back into the four, and take the next step.

Because you’ll never control what happens to you.

You’ll always control what you do about it.

If you know someone who would benefit from reading this, please forward it to them. It may change the trajectory of their life for the better, and the catalyst could be you.
