Their Win Didn't Cost You Anything

Their Win Didn't Cost You Anything

You've probably seen the video doing the rounds this week.

Why would you ever not be happy for someone else?

Nobody's success comes at your expense. The world is abundant. Unlimited joy, unlimited opportunity, unlimited everything.

It's a great message. Genuinely.

It's also completely useless.

Not because it's wrong. Because it's right, and it still doesn't work.

You already believe there's enough to go round. You're not lying awake worried your mate's promotion used up one of the available promotions.

And you still felt something when they announced it.

So you nod along, agree with the message, and quietly conclude the problem must be you.

It isn't. The advice is just aimed at the wrong thing.

Because the twinge is never about scarcity.

It's comparison, not competition.

Their win didn't take anything from you. It told you something about you.

It updated your estimate of where you thought you'd be by now.

That's the whole mechanism.

The feeling isn't resentment toward them. It's a measurement of the distance between where you are and where you quietly expected to be.

Which changes what you do with it entirely.

Because you can't argue your way out with abundance. The logic is correct, and it doesn't touch the feeling, because the feeling was never a logic problem.

But you can read it.

Next time it shows up, don't push it down and don't feel bad about it.

Ask what it's pointing at.

"Why did that one sting when the last one didn't?"

It'll be specific.

Someone's business success doesn't bother you at all, but their body does.
Someone's financial success doesn't register, but their relationship success does.

That's the gap.

The twinge is not evidence you're a small person.

It's a signal, firing in exactly the area you've been avoiding.

So stop trying to make it go away.

Start asking what it knows.

If you know someone who would benefit from reading this, please forward it to them. It may change the trajectory of their life for the better, and the catalyst could be you.
