We Suffer More In Imagination Than In Reality

We Suffer More In Imagination Than In Reality

The meeting you’re dreading.
The conversation you’re rehearsing.
The hard workout you're nervous about doing.
The outcome you’ve already decided will go badly.

You’ve lived it a hundred times in your head.

And when it finally arrives, it’s rarely what you imagined.

Sometimes it’s easier. Sometimes it doesn’t happen at all.

But you paid for it anyway. Over and over again in your mind.

My psychologist gave me a technique for this. I use it constantly.

When my mind starts chasing something that hasn’t happened yet, I say four words to myself.

“Just this, right now.”

Then I bring my attention to where my feet are. The floor beneath them. The physical, immediate, unarguable present.

Because your feet are always in reality. It’s only your mind that wanders into a future that doesn’t exist.

Just this. Right now.

If you know someone who would benefit from reading this, please forward it to them. It may change the trajectory of their life for the better, and the catalyst could be you.
