Welcome To Halftime

Welcome To Halftime

Today is the first day of the second half of the year.

Six months are behind you. Six months are still in front of you.

Which makes this the perfect moment to stop, pause, and take honest stock.

What have been the wins?
What have been the losses?
What have you actually achieved?
What have you really struggled with?

Before you charge into the back half of the year, it's worth sitting with those questions for a moment.

I grew up playing basketball.

It was a huge part of my life as a kid and a teenager, right up until injury ended anything I might have gone on to do with it at 18 years old. The lessons from those years have never left me. And one of them is perfect for today.

The phrase “halftime is only halftime” is pretty much tattooed on my brain.

If the first half went brilliantly and you walked into the locker room twenty or thirty points up, every coach worth their salt drilled the same message into you.

The game isn't over.

There's a whole half still to play.
Don't get complacent.
Don't get cocky.

Because the moment you ease off, the other team comes storming back and bites you. I watched it happen more times than I can count. Big leads evaporate the second a team starts celebrating instead of playing.

But the lesson cut the other way too.

If you walked into halftime down by ten, twenty, even thirty points, the message was never "you're losing."

It was this…

Reset the scoreboard to zero in your mind.

You're not crawling out of a hole.
You're starting a fresh game.
And you can get ahead by ten points, twenty points, thirty points, more than you'd think possible, if you stop staring at the deficit and start playing like the score is level.

The mindset was everything. The team that came back was always the team that refused to see itself as behind.

So here's how I want you to apply this to the second half of 2026.

If your first six months have been strong, take a genuine moment to recognise it.

Acknowledge the wins.
Be proud of the progress.
But don't pat yourself on the back so hard that you fall over.

Don't let a brilliant first half turn into a complacent second half that drags an exceptional year down into a mediocre one. The lead means nothing if you stop doing the work.

And if your first six months have been hard, full of trials, obstacles, setbacks, and things that didn't go your way, hear this clearly...

You're only at halftime.
The score resets today.
You have a full six months to turn this year completely around.
To take a year that's been disappointing so far and finish it as one of the best you've ever had.

Because halftime is not the end of anything.

It's the chance to reset, regroup, and decide who you're going to be for the rest of the game.

The first half is already written.

There's nothing left to do about it but learn from it.

The second half is still completely yours.

So whatever the scoreboard says today, walk back out and play the next six months like the score is zero.

Because what you do from here is what 2026 will actually be remembered for.

If you know someone who would benefit from reading this, please forward it to them. It may change the trajectory of their life for the better, and the catalyst could be you.
